5 O'Clock Shadow

grass sticking through the snow and casting shadows down upon it

Interesting day for photos. I wasn't blown away with anything I took but something about the time of day and season make several of them compelling to me. Only at this time of year could the snow be light enough, the snow white enough, and the grass fresh enough for these long thin shadows to show up. Only at this time a day could those shadows really stretch out and stripe the ground. The snow isn't all in focus but where it isn't it glows and adds to the presence of the unseen sun. I do a lot of tight focus shooting and yet this simple shot is able to carry with it an immense amount of information about time and place
